Chop Day!

All of the advice I've been reading online about starting a healthy hair journey advocates cutting off your spilt ends - trying to hold onto them in the name of "length" doesn't work (they will eventually snap off) and let's be honest - the straggly thin "long" bits just make your hair look uneven and unkempt anyway! So today I went to the hairdressers for a treatment and a "trim".
Bye bye thin split ends

Here are my before photos:

And 1 quasi colour (non permanent), 1 Keracare reconstructor treatment, 1 inch of trimming, and the discovery of some major breakage (the result of every day ponytails on weak short hair - and if I'm honest the permanent colour from the end of last year) later, here are my after photos:

I'm happy with how my hair feels (well moisturised and strong) and mostly happy with how it looks (shiny, fuller now the straggly ends are gone), but I was so traumatized with how much had to be trimmed around the very uneven areas where it had broken! I'm sad to be left with tufty bits around my front hairline and at the back on the right hand side where my hair has literally snapped off over the last 6 months:

But...I will get over the "loss" - at the end of the day it was thin, over processed unhealthy hair and now that it's gone I can truly start my journey minus the dead weight (literally).

Next step...getting my products together and building my regimen :-)

  1. You'll be glad you did the chop straight away. I didn't when I started my journey and it meant I had to continuously cut my hair later on
Good luck with your hair journey! :)

  3. Thanks for the comments :-) I am glad I trimmed. After my first wash day my hair is soft, and has movement. Loving it!!
